According to spectators, the brawl kicked off when a Sunderland player kicked a United rival on the ground shortly after the game finished. Footage of the incident shows both sets of player pushing and shoving one another as tensions boiled over. Some players then started grabbing each others’ shirts with one Sunderland star pushed to the ground. The brawl started to dissipate before smaller fights broke off as on United player was seen throwing a punch before both youngsters fell over. The rest of the squad rushed in to break up the violence as officials struggled to get a hold of the situation. No cards were issued to any of the United or Sunderland players in the footage that circulated on social media. United went on to book a final spot with Mexican side Tigres, who they beat on penalties after a 1-1 draw.
