Man nabbed in QC for allegedly selling fake birth certificate

(Photo: NBI/screengrab) MANILA, Philippines — A man was arrested in Quezon City for allegedly processing and selling “fake birth certificates,” according to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI). In a statement on Friday, the NBI said the suspect had been processing “fake birth certificates” using the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA)’s papers, ink, and QR codes located at the PSA Main Office, East Avenue, Quezon City. The fake birth certificates were allegedly sold for P5,000. Article continues after this advertisement READ: NBI: There’s ‘person of interest’ in Hontiveros’ online death threats After receiving the information, the bureau’s Counter Terrorism Division (NBI-CTD) conducted an entrapment operation, where undercover agents posed as customers and ordered two fake birth certificates and sent a P1,000 down payment via GCash. The suspect then asked the undercover agents for the information needed for the supposed birth certificate, such as their names, date of birth, place of birth, and their parents’ names. On July 15, as the suspect was about to hand the two fake birth certificates to the undercover agents and receive the marked money as the remaining payment, agents immediately implemented the entrapment and apprehended him.
