Without the truck driver initially noticing the man inside, the rubbish was unloaded onto the vehicle, and the truck then proceeded to crush all the waste. As soon as their colleagues spotted that someone was hiding inside, they stopped, but it was already too late. Emergency services could do nothing to save him and he was pronounced dead at the scene. Firefighters had to remove his body from the inside of the truck before it was taken away. The truck driver received medical attention after suffering a panic attack. A spokesperson for the National Police in Murcia confirmed the dead man was allegedly being hunted by police after stealing a backpack. Most read in The Sun “He was seen stealing a rucksack belonging to a homeless man and police lost him as they tried to intercept him,” they said. “That was because he had hidden inside the rubbish container.” A source added: “Unluckily for him he hid where he did just before the bin lorry arrived and as it always does, it activated the compaction system to empty the contents in the back of the vehicle.” No details have been released about the age or nationality of the victim. While extremely rare, such incidents have happened before. In October last year, Sajmir Beca, 30, suffered catastrophic injuries and died a week later in hospital after being tipped from a bin into a lorry. The incident happened in Northampton, and again, bin collectors did not spot that there was a person inside. Comment now
