Man in his 80s dies after house fire in north London - as police probe cause of blaze that destroyed first floor

The whole of the first floor and half of the roof was destroyed in a two-storey terraced house in Granville Road, Wood Green on Saturday night. Police are now investigating the cause of the blaze. A woman was able to escape the burning building before emergency services arrived, the London Fire Brigade said. Firefighters were called out at 10.15pm and brought the blaze under control at 11.30pm.The cause of the fire is currently unknown. A London Fire Brigade (LFB) spokesman said: 'One woman left the house before the brigade arrived, sadly a man died at the scene.' A spokesman from the Metropolitan Police said: 'Officers attended to support the London Fire Brigade and London Ambulance Service.
