A West Wittering Beach spokesperson said: “Our thoughts and sincere condolences are with the man’s family, friends and all those affected by this tragic incident. Sign up for The Sun newsletter Thank you! “We would like to thank our lifeguards, emergency service colleagues and members of the public who assisted during the response.” Sussex Police were called to the area following reports of two men getting into difficulty in the sea near the Beach Café. A police spokesperson said: “Both were pulled from the sea and received treatment from emergency services at the scene. “Sadly, one of the men was pronounced dead at the scene. “The other man has been taken to hospital as a precaution. “Next of kin have been informed and the matter has been passed to the coroner’s officer.” Most read in The Sun Pictures taken from the beach show coastguard and ambulance vehicles parked up next to the water. It is believed the men did not know each other. They were given medical treatment at the scene. The family of the deceased person has been informed.
