Man dies a month after being hit by own car during alleged theft

A man who was run over while trying to stop his car from allegedly being stolen in Melbourne's north-east last month has died in hospital.The 68-year-old was struck by his black Honda SUV outside his Heidelberg West home as he allegedly tried to stop an unknown female from taking it.CCTV footage previously released by police showed a woman walking along a footpath on the opposite side of the street from the man's house.The man's car can be seen in the driveway with its headlights on and at least one door open.Police earlier released CCTV footage of a person wanted over the alleged hit and run incident. (Supplied: Victoria Police)The man was taken to hospital with critical injuries but died overnight. The woman allegedly fled the scene with police later appealing to her to hand herself in. On August 7, a 51-year-old woman was charged with dangerous driving causing serious injury, theft of a motor vehicle, failing to stop, failing to render assistance and unlicensed driving. She is expected to appear before the Melbourne Magistrates' Court on November 17. Police said investigators would consider upgrading the charges.
