Man City 5 Norwich 0: Samba, 17, scores two on debut as Allan and McAidoo also get on scoresheet to set up Brighton tie

BACK of the net! Manchester City have a new signing called Allan – so it seemed fitting that he should use Norwich to make his name. The Brazilian winger was a £34million signing from Palmeiras in the final few days of the transfer window and his arrival went almost under the radar. Sign up for the Football newsletter Thank you! His new club were busy finalising deals for the likes of Ayyoub Bouaddi, Iliman Ndiaye and Enzo Fernandez – so nobody was too interested in this one. But he marked his debut by scoring one and creating another for fellow debutant Floyd Samba, who ended up stealing the show from Allan by grabbing two goals. Samba is the son of former Blackburn defender Christopher – who loved watching his 17-year-old boy’s sensational first run out from the stands. The young winger has already made something of a name for himself when he scored in the FA Youth Cup final against neighbours United in May. He is one of three academy players Enzo Maresca has promoted to the first team here along with Ryan McAidoo and Kaden Braithwaite. Samba is the youngest and the last of the trio to get his chance and he did not let his manager down with his performance here. Phillipe Clement had made nine changes to his team – one fewer than Maresca – and his team looked up for it early on before two goals in three minutes killed the tie. Just before the half hour, Nico O’Reilly’s cross to the back post was lifted back across by Allan and Samba flicked a header into the far corner. It was a special moment for him – but he was far from finished there, playing a clever pass into the feet of Bouaddi moments later. The visitors knew the game was up for them – while Maresca was closing in on a sixth straight win since the Community Shield disappointment. But his team were far from finished there and Allan got his big moment three minutes after the re-start. The winger picked up the ball on the left and twisted and turned past his man before shooting low beyond Grimshaw for a super individual goal. By then he had been upstaged by Samba who collected a pass from Rayan Ait Nouri before curling a delicious shot into the corner. His old man – who made his mark as an imposing 6ft 6in centre back in Mark Hughes’ Rovers team – could hardly stop smiling. Norwich thought they had a consolation their travelling fans deserved when Mohamed Toure latched onto a pass from Antony Musaba. And in the closing minutes, McAidoo, on as a half time sub for Cherki, swept home number five as he got on the end of O’Reilly’s low cross. The Canaries have now conceded 24 goals in their last five visits to this stadium with just one goal to cheer along the way. Comment now
