Man charged with killing former British MP Ann Widdecombe

​Joshua Kerry, a resident of Rotherham, England, was first arrested at 9 p.m. on Saturday, July 11, in South Yorkshire, under suspicion of murder. While in custody, new evidence caused Kerry to be rearrested under suspicion of commission, preparation, or instigation of an act of terrorism, reports ABC News.Kerry spent more than a week in custody before being charged on Monday with Widdecombe’s killing. He remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday. ​Kerry allegedly traveled more than 300 miles to Widdecombe’s home, where police believed the 78-year-old politician was attacked at around 12:30 p.m. on July 8, according to the Times.Widdecombe was found dead roughly 24 hours later, according to emergency services. Police say they are currently investigating why Widdecombe was attacked, including any political or terrorist motives. ​The suspect worked for a company that repaired elevator equipment and lived alone on the outskirts of Kimberworth. Neighbors said Kerry was rarely seen after his father died from stomach cancer last December. The suspect lived with his father and has two older brothers, one of whom serves in the British Royal Navy. Newspaper clippings related to the Reform Party were found hanging inside Kerry’s home, reported the Sun.​Widdecombe was a Reform Party leader known for her staunch social conservatism and Eurosceptic views.
