Man charged with dangerous driving after horror crash wiped out two families killing six and leaving girl, 11, an orphan

A MAN has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving after six people, including two children, died in a crash. Shannen Morgan, Shane Roller, and sisters Rubie, nine, and Lillie, four, were all killed leaving an 11-year-old girl orphaned. Christopher Cockell, 50, has been charged after the fatal smash on the A61 on July 21 2024. He is due to appear at Leeds Magistrates’ Court on October 28 and has been charged with six counts of causing death by dangerous driving. Wakefield’s Coroner’s Court also heard that the crash happened while the motorbike was overtaking another vehicle on the single-carriageway road just before 4pm. The smash spun the Ford Focus to the side of the road and it burst into flames. None of the family could be recovered and all four occupants were pronounced dead. Most read in The Sun Coroner’s support officer Phil Marr said: “As a result of a head-on impact, the car was spun to the side of the road, where it caught fire. “It was not possible to release any of the occupants and all four were pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene.” The couple’s eldest daughter Poppie had not joined her family for a day out and was instead at a friend’s home at the time. He wrote: “Despite her unimaginable loss, she shows incredible strength every day.” Tributes have flooded in from Shane and Shannen’s loved ones, who vowed to look after the youngster. Shane’s brother Callum said he was “lost for words”, adding: “I’m absolutely heartbroken. I’m gonna miss all of you! You all had a heart of gold. My heart is ripped into a million pieces!” Shannen’s pal Chelsea Element wrote: “You are and always will be one of my closest friends. “There are no words to describe the utter loss this has created for family/friends and the community around us. “I hope you’re at peace Shannen Morgan and Shane Roller, with your beautiful girls. “Everyone will always look after [the eldest girl], she will never want for anything she has the love of everyone.” While Christopher and Janine’s son paid tribute to the couple, who had recently celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary.
