Man admits to cutting ‘good friend’ who spurned sexual advances

July 17, 2026 MONTEGO BAY, St James — Roujay Pottinger, who admitted to cutting his friend in the head after she rejected his alcohol-fuelled sexual advances, will hear what his punishment will be on October 12. He pleaded guilty to unlawful wounding when he appeared before Judge Kaysha Grant-Pryce in the St James Parish Court on Wednesday. According to facts outlined in court and not disputed, Pottinger — who was described as a good friend of the complainant — went to her home on June 13. Under the influence of alcohol, Pottinger demanded that his friend have sex with him. When she refused he became boisterous, then used a knife to inflict a wound to the woman’s head. “Why did you cut her?” Judge Grant-Pryce asked after the facts were read in court. “It was a mistake,” Pottinger replied. The response drew a stern rebuke from the judge. “Mistake? You could have killed her, sir,” Judge Grant-Pryce told him. Before handing down a sentence, the judge ordered that a social enquiry report be prepared. The matter was adjourned until sentencing and Pottinger’s bail was extended until then.
