Man accused of extorting Rs 10 crore from Delhi defence businessman gets bail

Police arrested Singh on June 13 along with Jaswant Singh and Shamsher Singh in connection with the case.According to the complaint and the prosecution's case, Luthra, the founder of Vijyan Trishul Defence Solution Private Limited and a resident of Chanakyapuri, allegedly received threatening WhatsApp messages and calls from international numbers. The messages allegedly demanded 10 crore and threatened to harm Luthra and his family if he did not pay the money.The alleged threats were received during August-September 2025 and again in June 2026. Police initially registered an FIR at Chanakyapuri Police Station before transferring the investigation to the Crime Branch of the Delhi Police. The prosecution has alleged that the three accused formed part of a conspiracy connected with the threats. During the investigation, investigators also identified Jaswant Singh, who had earlier been associated with the Punjab Police and later worked with Luthra, in connection with the case.Earlier proceedings focused on the recovery and examination of electronic devices and other material that investigators said could help establish the alleged roles of the accused. Opposing the allegations, Singh's defence submitted that he had no previous criminal record and was not a habitual offender. The defence further argued that the investigation had been completed, the chargesheet had been filed and there was no longer any requirement for his custodial interrogation.The court took these submissions into consideration while deciding the bail application.The magistrate noted that the investigation had been completed and that continued custodial interrogation was no longer necessary. The court also considered that the alleged offences carry a maximum punishment of seven years and that the trial was likely to take considerable time.Singh was granted bail on furnishing a bond of Rs 50,000 along with one surety of the same amount, subject to the conditions imposed by the court.The grant of bail does not amount to a finding on the guilt or innocence of the accused.
