A 25-year-old murder accused, who was returning from a court in Chengalpattu after appearing in connection with a murder case, was hacked to death by a six-member gang at a fuel outlet on the Chengalpattu bypass in broad daylight on Tuesday.The victim, Muthu Veera, 25, of Urapakkam, had several criminal cases pending against him. He was out on bail.After a court hearing, Muthu Veera was returning home on a two-wheeler with two friends.When the trio stopped at a fuel outlet on the Chengalpattu bypass, six men surrounded Muthu Veera and attacked him with sickles. The assailants repeatedly hacked him and then fled the scene. He died on the spot.Chengalpattu Taluk police recovered the body and sent it to the Chengalpattu District Government Hospital for post-mortem. A case has been registered, and special teams have been formed to trace the suspects. Police suspect that the killing could have been the result of a previous enmity.
