The alarm was raised after reports of a collision in Surrey shortly before midnight on Monday. The crash involved a pedestrian and several vehicles on the anticlockwise carriageway between junctions J11 and J10. Emergency services found the young man at the scene, but he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the crash site. At this stage, no arrests have been made. The man’s next of kin have been informed, the police confirmed. Surrey Police said: ‘Both carriageways of the M25 have been closed between Junction 10 (Wisley) and Junction 11 (Chertsey) overnight, along with the A245 (Parvis Road), but have since reopened. We thank the public for their patience and understanding. ‘Enquiries are underway to understand the circumstances leading up to this collision. ‘We are therefore appealing for anyone who may have witnessed this incident, or have any CCTV, dashcam, or helmet cam footage that could assist our investigation, to please get in touch.’ Motorists with any information are asked to contact the force and quote PR/45260106054. The tragedy brought traffic to a standstill on the UK’s busiest motorway into the afternoon while an investigation was carried out. Motorists heading to Heathrow and Gatwick Airports were warned to expect delays and longer journeys during the closure. The August bank holiday was slated to be the busiest on the UK roads in 11 years. Motoring expert RAC predicted more than 20 million trips over the long weekend, with the bulk of the traffic predicted on the Friday and bank holiday Monday.
