SWR, while taking over the responsibility of Mangaluru Railway Region on October 1, had stated that status quo would prevail for three months. The new train numbers from January 1Indian Railways switched over to a five-digit train numbering system from 2010 after the four-digit numbering system got exhausted when the number of trains being operated crossed the 10,000 mark. While the first digit indicates the train type/class, the second and third digits indicate the operating zone and the division, respectively, while the fourth and fifth digits indicate the sequential identifiers for a particular train to distinguish it from others.Changed numbers of express /superfast / VB Express trains are:Existing Train NoTrain NameFromToNew Train No20631/632Vande Bharat Express Mangaluru Central (MAQ)Thiruvananthapuram Central (TVC) 26659/66020646/645 Vande Bharat Express Mangaluru Central (MAQ)Madgaon 26657/65816630/629Malabar ExpressMangaluru Central (MAQ)Thiruvananthapuram Central (TVC) 16229/23016603/604Maveli ExpressMangaluru Central (MAQ)Thiruvananthapuram Central (TVC) 16233/23416649/650 Parasuram Express Mangaluru Central (MAQ)Kanyakumari16249/25016605/606 Ernad Express Mangaluru Central (MAQ)Thiruvananthapuram Central (TVC) 16237/23816622/621 Mangaluru-Rameswaram Weekly ExpressMangaluru Central (MAQ)Rameswaram16241/24216324/323 Mangaluru Central-Coimbatore ExpressMangaluru Central (MAQ)Coimbatore16243/24416610/611 Mangaluru Central-Palakkad ExpressMangaluru Central (MAQ)Palakkad16245/246While the first digit ‘1’ indicates that the service is an express train, the second digit ‘6’ indicates the zone (SWR).
