Major UK shopping centre will stay closed ALL week after glass ceiling collapsed

A MAJOR shopping destination has been forced to shut for another week after part of its glass ceiling collapsed. Although it is home to more than 50 big-name brands, the centre currently only has two stores open while inspections continue. Over a week ago, a glass ceiling panel fell down inside the centre causing no injuries but forcing the building to shutdown for health and safety investigations. While an exact reopening date for Swan Walk has not been set, bosses say shoppers won’t be able to return until at least next week. A statement from the shopping centre reads: “Swan Walk Shopping Centre will remain closed for the remainder of this week to ensure the safety of all visitors, tenants and staff. “We will provide a further update once more information is available.” Marks and Spencer and Boots are the only stores open, with M&S installing a temporary protective structure at its entrance to let shoppers return safely. Customers requiring prescriptions from Superdrug Pharmacy have also been told they can arrange a collection from the rear of the store, with Swan Walk Car Park still staying open. Many shoppers have shared their support for the local businesses impacted by this, with one saying: “My heart goes out to all those independent traders who are affected. “Fingers crossed that the roof issue is resolved as quickly as possible to ensure the safety of all, and businesses can resume trading asap.” Swan Walk Shopping Centre has not confirmed when it will reopen its doors to the public.
