Major UK motorway closed as hay trailer erupts into flames with drivers stranded in hour-long delays

A MAJOR motorway has ground to a halt after a hay trailer burst into flames. Traffic on all lanes of the M4 westbound between junction 15 and 16 has been stopped after the fire this morning. Emergency services rushed to the westbound side of the motorway near Swindon to battle the inferno. Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said crews are on the scene dealing with the fire. A spokesperson for the Wiltshire Police said: “Please be aware that the M4 westbound between junctions 15 and 16 is closed due to a significant lorry fire. “Please find alternate routes. “We will provide updates when appropriate.” The AA’s traffic monitors added: “All lanes stopped and queueing traffic due to vehicle fire on M4 Westbound between J15 A419 Marlborough Road (Swindon East) and J16 A3102 Swindon Road (Swindon West).” National Highways said the fire has caused four miles of congestion and advises motorists to allow extra time.
