In recent scenes, Jonah has taken horrifying action to keep son Caleb (Lewis Walton) close by drugging him – but there is more to be uncovered. When Matthew chatted to Metro at the Cure Usher Ball, he told us that viewers are set to find out more about the character’s past. ‘Without giving too much away, over the next few months, we’re going to find out about Jonah’s backstory, and there’s a few skeletons in the closet, put it that way!’ He teased. Matthew started filming at Hollyoaks eight months ago, with Jonah first appearing on our screens in April 2026, but it wasn’t Matthew’s first foray into the world of soap. Soap fans will remember him as Emmerdale’s David Metcalfe – a character he played from 2006 until 2023. Jonah Keane has been drugging son Caleb (Picture: Lime Pictures) ‘I started at Emmerdale when I was 25/26, and I always felt like one of the younger ones there, even after 18 years,’ he admitted. ‘I know I got older through the years! ‘But then I go to Hollyoaks and the cast is so young, I’m like Grandad there now! Such a different vibe going into the green room, it’s all youngens in there. But it’s brilliant, I’m loving it. I’ve been there eight months now and it’s fab.’ The Cure Usher Ball saw the actor reunite with some of his Emmerdale co-stars, who he revealed he still keeps in touch with. The cast were there to support co-stars Laura Norton and Mark Jordon, who organised the ball in support of the Cure Usher Syndrome charity. Usher Syndrome is a rare genetic condition that causes hearing and vision loss and, in some cases, affects balance. There is currently no cure. In 2023, Laura and Mark shared the news that their children, Jesse, 5, and Ronnie, 3, had been diagnosed with Usher Syndrome.
