Superintendent Linda Bradbury told the Today show: “They were out on a weekend drive as a lot of people do when they stopped for a break and found it. “Quite a shocking discovery for them, absolutely.” Police were not sure what was in the suitcase at first, but believed it to be human remains, Superintendent Bradbury told Nine News. The case was sent for forensic test and cops launched a probe, before they realised the body was not human at all. She said she “couldn’t be prouder” of how cops handled the case. Pictures showed forensics officers scouring the scene where the suitcase was found. They cordoned off the area, located just over an hour’s drive north-east of the Australian capital Canberra. The bag was covered in a blue evidence bag. And at the time of the discovery, Bradbury said the bag was “subject to a state of decomposition”. Before police revealed the body was a doll, she said: “We’re conducting a number of enquiries to assist us in locating the identification of the female and also how she ended up in that location.” Minister for Police and Counter-terrorism Yasmin Catley said: “The NSW Police treated this matter with utmost seriousness as the community would expect.” “We should have confidence that when a potential crime is reported, the police will respond swiftly and professionally. “Police acted on the information available and as a result of a thorough investigation and forensic analysis, were able to confirm the suitcase did not contain human remains. “Our officers do an incredible job every day and they have my full support.” Comment now
