Some fans are still combing over every inch of Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, trying to 100% them and uncover any Easter eggs and secrets in the process. Others blazed through them in a matter of days or weeks, and are waiting for the next big thing. What that next thing will be is heavily under wraps. We know that there's an Ocarina of Time remake coming later this year, but the next era of Zelda is a mystery. Thanks to a new post on X, a major official redesign for The Legend of Zelda might be coming sooner than expected. Thanks to a new post from "Necro" Felipe on X, we may have seen our first glimpse of the 40th anniversary logo for The Legend of Zelda. Adorned by iconography from the very first Zelda NES game, this logo is allegedly going to be employed for a Switch 2 Pro Controller, which is supposedly in the works for later this year. What sweetens the pot is that Nintendeal, a reliable source, has corroborated this claim that a 40th anniversary Pro Controller is coming by the end of 2026. If this pans out, for reference, this would be the second official Switch 2 Pro Controller for sale, beyond the Resident Evil Requiem edition. It's interesting that multiple leaks have pointed toward a Switch 2 Pro Controller rather than an anniversary edition of Switch 2 hardware, but given the current global economic crisis, plans for that could have been scrapped. Right now, the majority of Zelda fans are wondering what's coming next in the mainline series, following The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Although Tears of the Kingdom is undoubtedly a critical and commercial success, some fans felt fatigued by a second game in the Breath of the Wild universe. Now, everyone is waiting to see whether Nintendo will add a new game and make it a trilogy, or go somewhere entirely different this time. Given The Legend of Zelda and its penchant for exploration and discovery, I'm in favor of doing something new this time around. While I would easily play a third game in a theoretical Breath of the Wild trilogy, something fresh would be ideal and in the spirit of the series. Zelda does do sequels occasionally, but it shines when it takes on the unknown.
