A MAJOR high street bank is moving all of its customers over to a rival as part of a £780million deal. Customers of The Co-operative Bank are likely to be moved to Coventry Building Society early next year. Coventry bought its rival in January 2025 as part of plans to merge the two businesses. The plans are currently going through the High Court for approval. Sign up for the Money newsletter Thank you! Coventry is proposing to transfer customers over from The Co-operative Bank on January 1, 2027. The transfer will also include smile customers, who use The Co-operative’s digital banking. A spokesperson for The Co-operative Bank said: “We have started the process of reviewing our brands, but we are taking our time to get this right and all possibilities are open.” It said it would continue to use The Co-operative Bank and smile branding and logos. Any letters to customers will still have this branding too. However, Coventry will be providing the accounts and financial products if the transfer is approved. Most read in Money Customers will also see Coventry Building Society at the bottom of all communications from their bank. If you have have an account with Coventry, you won’t be impacted and there’s nothing you need to do.
