Investigators examined the captain’s behaviour on the flight after the cabin crew filed a complaint with Air India alleging he wasn’t in control of himself. It is understood the captain was found sitting on the cockpit floor when the aircraft’s warning signals started as altitude was being lost. Upon landing in Delhi, sources told the outlet the pilot was unsteady on his feet and had to be helped to sit down. One passenger even alleged the pilot was visibly high before the plane took off. A crew member is said to have filed a complaint against the pilot for his alleged marijuana use. The pilot said in a flight safety statement after: “I disclose, for completeness, that I had separately been experiencing sleep difficulty over a preceding period, related to personal circumstances, for which I had been prescribed medication by my family doctor. “During the layover, I personally attempted rest; sleep did not come easily, and I judged that light activity such as walking would be constructive for sleep quality.” India’s Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau, or AAIB, is reviewing flight data, aircraft systems, maintenance and operational records, medical information, and conducting interviews as part of an independent investigation. Many passengers were reportedly asleep at the time of the horror drop last week. One passenger described the aircraft shaking for around two to three minutes while the plane was tilted. Air India claimed the flight ran into a brief turbulence-related event while cruising. A spokesperson for the airline said at the time the safety and wellbeing of passengers and crew was its main priority, adding they will provide the “necessary support” for those affected. They also added Air India will co-operate “fully” with authorities as part of the investigation. Comment now
