She said she had entered the Circuit House at around 6:30 pm and was allotted the same room she usually stays in.According to Moitra, dinner was served to her in the room at around 9:20 pm, shortly before the administration contacted her. She later said she received a message containing what she described as an “order” to vacate the room at around 10:52 pm.“I am elected MP till 2029. Lok Sabha ended yesterday & I am staying night in Circuit House Krishnanagar, official accommodation for all MPs,” Moitra posted on X. In another post, she said the administration had asked her to leave despite her being a sitting MP staying in her own constituency.“I, as sitting woman MP, staying night in circuit house in my own constituency received call at 9:47 pm from Additional District Magistrate asking me to vacate my room! Imagine the audacity!” she wrote. Moitra also alleged that the administration was “desperate to keep us out of area” and said she had refused to leave.“Just received call from local administration asking me to vacate & leave! Told them NO WAY!” she said. The TMC MP later claimed that a large crowd had gathered outside the Circuit House gates and was shouting “Jai Shree Ram”.“Outside the gates are huge crowd shouting Jai Shree Ram!” she wrote. In a subsequent post, Moitra said the crowd was shouting the slogan while the district administration continued to call and message her repeatedly to vacate the room.“Supreme Court asked me to face bullets so here I am not backing down,” she wrote. The allegations came a day after Parliament's Monsoon Session ended. Moitra linked the late-night order to her presence in her constituency and suggested that the administration was seeking to prevent Opposition MPs and leaders from staying in the area.- EndsPublished On: Aug 14, 2026 23:53 IST
