Don't just take my word for it; Kevin Feige himself has said he feels like a "gigantic loser and failure" for not making a Blade film starring Mahershala Ali a reality. Now, Mahershala Ali himself has responded to this - and says he "agrees with him 100%". He also believes that Feige is a "loser and a failure" for fumbling his Blade film so badly, and explains just what the project cost him. Mahershala Ali Trained For A Year And Moved His Entire Family For The Blade Film That Never Happened Speaking with GQ, Ali is asked whether he lost out on roles because he was saving time for Blade. He makes it clear that it was worse than that - he lost out on jobs because he was actively working on Blade at the time, only for it all to fall apart. "Once it was happening, I was working on it," Ali says. "I was doing what I needed to do to prepare myself. It just didn't happen." Ali goes into further detail, saying he did a year of training, learning sword work and martial arts. He even sustained an injury during that training. Ali is then asked why, it all fell apart, and his answer is simple: "That's a Kevin Feige question. They had, as you said, a two-time Oscar-winning actor under contract, and you've got billions of dollars. That's a question for them. To this day, I don't know why it didn't happen." He then touches on Feige specifically, "Kevin says it was the biggest failure of his career, and I agree". The interviewer cites the exact quote from Feige, which came from an interview with Happy Sad Confused. Here, Feige said he felt like a "gigantic loser and failure." When told this, Ali nods. "I agree with him, 100%," he says. "He should feel that way." It was Keige's comments back in July that confirmed Blade was dead for good. The project had languished in development hell for years, following its announcement in 2019. However, it has only recently become clear that Ali will not join the MCU as Blade, and it's not yet known if the character has a place in the series at all - beyond Wesley Snipes reprising the role in Deadpool & Wolverine.
