Delegation from the Directorate of Languages, Government of Maharashtra with CIIL Director Basavaraja Kodagunti at NTM-CIIL in Mysuru on Wednesday. | Photo Credit: Special Arrangement A delegation of senior officers from the Directorate of Languages, Government of Maharashtra, visited the National Translation Mission (NTM), Central Institute of Indian Languages (CIIL), Mysuru on Wednesday to discuss matters related to the translation of academic content and explore avenues for institutional collaboration.The delegation comprising Arun Gite, Director of Languages; Santosh Gosavi, Assistant Director of Languages; and translators Namdev Koli and Anand Gangan held discussions with Basavaraja Kodagunti, Director, CIIL, and Tariq Khan, Officer-in-Charge, NTM, for developing a roadmap for translating academic content and strengthening translation initiatives in Marathi and other Indian and foreign languages.The visit builds upon the long-standing association between the Directorate of Languages and the Mission. Officers from the Directorate had previously consulted the NTM on various language and translation-related matters and had visited CIIL on earlier occasions.The National Translation Mission has extended language and translation consultancy to the Directorate and conducted a customised training programme in translation for its officers during 2019-20. The present initiative assumes particular significance in the context of the ‘Viksit Maharashtra 2047’ programme of the Government of Maharashtra, under which 500 Marathi books are proposed to be translated into various Indian and foreign languages, according to a press release.The delegation’s visit to CIIL is aimed at seeking the expertise of NTM in planning and implementing this futuristic translation initiative.During the discussion, the resource persons of NTM - S. Winston Cruz, Biswadip Gogoi, Jnana Murthy B. R., Sunetra Sholapurkar, and Vaishnavi Yuvraj Sawant were present.The discussions, scheduled for 2-3 days, are expected to facilitate knowledge sharing and contribute to the formulation of a comprehensive roadmap for academic translation, while further strengthening collaboration between the Directorate of Languages, Government of Maharashtra, and the National Translation Mission (NTM), CIIL, the release added.
