The two brothers, Ayan Beg, 23, and Mussavir Beg, 21, suffered serious injuries and were referred to Chandrapur for further treatment.The accused allegedly fled the spot on an Activa after the attack but was later arrested by Ballarpur police. According to the information available, Saniya Mirza married Shahnawaz in 2021. The couple began facing differences soon after the marriage, following which Saniya moved to her father’s home in Ballarpur with her son.A case against Shahnawaz was registered in Chandrapur, while a divorce case between the couple is pending before a court. On the evening of September 1, at around 6.30 pm, Shahnawaz allegedly reached his in-laws’ home in the Vishwashanti Chowk area of Teacher Colony in Buddh Nagar Ward on an Activa with another young man.The person accompanying him reportedly remained outside while Shahnawaz entered the house.According to the allegations, he demanded that his in-laws withdraw the divorce case and send Saniya with him.Her father told him that the matter was already before the court and that Saniya should be allowed to make her own decision. An argument reportedly broke out following the exchange.During the argument, Shahnawaz allegedly grabbed his wife’s hand and tried to take her away with him.Her brothers objected and attempted to stop him.The accused allegedly abused them and threatened to kill them before pulling out a knife from his pocket.He allegedly attacked Ayan Beg first, causing serious injuries to his head and abdomen.Shahnawaz then allegedly attacked his other brother-in-law, Mussavir Beg, with the knife.When Tajkhan Pathan attempted to intervene and stop the attack, he too sustained a knife injury to his hand.After allegedly attacking the three men, Shahnawaz fled the spot on his Activa.The injured men, covered in blood, were taken to the government hospital in Ballarpur for treatment.After receiving initial treatment, Ayan and Mussavir were referred to Chandrapur as their condition was reported to be serious.Ballarpur police reached the spot soon after receiving information about the incident and began investigating the case.A police team comprising officer-in-charge Bipin Ingle, Assistant Police Inspector Madan Divte and Police Sub-Inspector Gajanan Doiphode, among others, took up the investigation.Police subsequently arrested Shahnawaz Hussain Sheikh Jameer in connection with the attack.Further investigation by Ballarpur police is underway.- EndsWith inputs from Vikas RajurkarPublished By: Sonali VermaPublished On: Sep 2, 2026 23:35 IST
