However, after spending several years together, Glenn was brutally murdered at the hands of Negan during season 7's premiere, and almost 10 years later, Maggie is finally moving on in The Walking Dead: Dead City. Although she has met plenty of great people since losing her husband, all of Maggie's relationships have stayed purely platonic, but it looks as though this is finally changing. Last time out on Dead City, the OG survivor went on a road trip with Luis, where they shared stories, bonded about their past, and even danced together. It all seemed to be building towards something more, which was seemingly confirmed when the two kissed, only for this moment to be a figment of Maggie's imagination. Still, the fact that she saw him as something more proves she has feelings for him, and with Luis acting as The Walking Dead's real version of Dante from the comics, the signs are there. Dante was Maggie's partner after Glenn in the source material, and it looks like Luis is set to take this role, especially since both characters share similarities. Episode 5 didn't expand much on Maggie and Luis's dynamic, yet the latter did bond with Hershel, resulting in the two striking a father-and-son type bond. The pair had already grown close when Dead City switched to a medical drama for one night only a couple of episodes ago, but now they feel more like family, rather than just a mentor and student. Therefore, with Luis winning both Maggie and Hershel's approval, a romantic relationship looks on the cards, suggesting Maggie is officially about to have a new lover. The Walking Dead's Maggie Has Found Love Again Thanks To Luis While the two are yet to officially start a romantic relationship in Dead City, it feels like only a matter of time before Maggie and Luis get together. Even if it takes some time to get there, the slow build-up will only feel more rewarding, regardless of whether we have to wait another episode or an entire season. Unless the spinoff decides to go down some tragic route where they simply can't be together, these two are destined to be The Walking Dead's next big couple, suggesting Maggie has found love through Luis. The newcomer to the franchise has helped her laugh and smile again by being playful yet genuine, something Maggie seems to appreciate. Both lost partners during the apocalypse, giving them something to relate to while also understanding why it may be hard for the other to open up. Whereas Luis shared details about his deceased wife, Maggie wasn't quite able to talk about Glenn just yet, which Luis respected, leaving the door open for when she was ready. Ever since Glenn died, we haven't seen Maggie this happy around someone, and she's certainly never envisioned herself with anyone else in this way. As a result, this newfound chemistry really does feel like the start of something special, making it increasingly likely that the New York hospital community will be Maggie's permanent home in The Walking Dead. Knowing she can trust Luis around her son and seeing the ways he has made Hershel a better man only increases the admiration Maggie has for the doctor, who almost certainly feels the same way. Therefore, it's safe to say Luis has helped Maggie find love again after all this time, making this dynamic one of Dead City's strongest attributes. The Walking Dead Is Handling Maggie's Love Story The Right Way Rather than rushing into things, The Walking Dead: Dead City is taking a slow approach to Maggie's love story, despite how long it has been since Glenn passed. She met Luis back in the premiere, but there have been multiple small time skips and scenes between them since then, yet they still aren't officially an item. Luis still has his patients and the day-to-day operations of the hospital to worry about, while Maggie is also preoccupied with trying to build the settlement and keep the peace, meaning neither of them has had too much time to themselves. Their road trip was the first time they'd actually had a prolonged period alone and away from all the chaos. Unsurprisingly then, it's here where sparks started to show, but instead of immediately following this up with them getting together in episode 5, Dead City is playing the long game. Luis even talked respectfully about Glenn, proving that he understood the importance he had and still has on Maggie's life, even after death. The fact that Dead City isn't just forgetting about Glenn's life and death, alongside the way he affected Maggie, makes Luis all the more likable, and the fact that he is forming his own separate bond with Hershel is even better. Even if he didn't end up dating Maggie, he still feels like a natural parental figure to Hershel. All of these factors make this brewing chemistry seem organic, rather than forced, especially since Luis has his own deceased partner to get over. Likewise, it has been ten years since we saw Maggie in a relationship, and a similar amount of time has passed in The Walking Dead universe, meaning this relationship hasn't come too soon. Considering the franchise catches a lot of criticism when it gets things wrong, it's only right that we praise it for how the writers have handled Maggie's upcoming romance, and after all this time, she certainly deserves some happiness. Maggie Moving On From Glenn Happened Faster In The Comics Image via AMC AMC's The Walking Dead certainly can't be accused of having Maggie moving on from Glenn too quickly, especially since it happened sooner in the comics. With Dead City taking place at least around 15 years after the outbreak, it has been well over a decade since Maggie lost Glenn, indicating she has been very patient. Keeping her son safe and focusing on his needs has been her priority for as long as Hershel has been alive, but he's now grown and doesn't need that same level of protection, allowing Maggie to focus on her own needs again. In the comics, Maggie remained single for several years after Glenn's death, but ended up with Dante following the Whisperer War. Despite telling Andrea she wouldn't enter another romantic relationship to honor Glenn, Maggie ultimately wound up falling for Dante in the source material much earlier than her TV counterpart has for Luis. Much like it has in Dead City, Maggie's post-Glenn comic relationship felt natural and avoided being rushed just to get readers talking. The Walking Dead: Dead City season 3 will consist of eight episodes and premieres every Sunday on AMC/ AMC+. In both instances, The Walking Dead has respected Glenn's legacy, and while we still don't know everything about Luis, it seems like Maggie is once again being paired with a good man, as Dante was also a great character in his own right and a good love interest for Maggie, with their relationship taking some time to build. The original story didn't rush into it right away, yet timeline-wise, Maggie was single for a much shorter period of time in the comics. Therefore, Dead City season 3's reviews shouldn't be impacted by this new love story, as Maggie has waited long enough in the televised universe to move on. Hopefully then, The Walking Dead: Dead City can continue the legacy of the comics by providing a heartfelt and authentic relationship between Maggie and Luis, and fans have been given long enough to prepare for this moment.
