Sign in to your ScreenRant account Warning: Mild SPOILERS lie ahead for MobLand season 2!EXCLUSIVE: Maeve has some very intricate plans for Eddie and Gina in MobLand season 2. Helen Mirren's Harrigan family matriarch held a close affinity for Anson Boon's youngest son of the crime family in season 1, all the more evidenced by her support of his killing Tommy Stevenson and nearly inciting a war between the two families. However, by MobLand season 1's ending, Eddie and Maeve's dynamic had found itself on troubled ground, in part due to her jealousy of his relationship with Teddie Allen's Gina, as well as keeping it a secret that Pierce Brosnan's Conrad was actually his father. Coming into MobLand season 2, things have changed for all three characters. Gina, frustrated by her mom and dad's toxic relationship and wishing the climactic stabbing resulted in Tom Hardy's Harry dying, has left home and taken up with Eddie, with the pair starting a business of shaking down rich Internet streamers. Maeve, meanwhile, is still eagerly attempting to invigorate Conrad's trigger-happy old ways, and slowly trying to phase Harry out from the proceedings. In honor of the show's premiere, ScreenRant's Grant Hermanns interviewed Helen Mirren, Teddie Allen and Anson Boon to discuss MobLand season 2. When asked about how the new season turns Eddie into a more composed, game-planning figure compared to his reckless behavior in the Guy Ritchie-produced show's debut, Boon called it "so nice as an actor" to get to be able to develop and evolve the Harrigan character's personality, particularly for the already-confirmed season 3: Anson Boon: So, yeah, he definitely felt invincible throughout the first season, and that manifests in the way he walks and talks and everything. I really wanted to come into the second series and explore how that changes his voice and his physicality, because he goes from up here [holds his hand high] mentally to down here [holds his hand lower], as he finds out obviously these revelations about his family. It was really fun to be able to explore a totally different side to the character, to be honest. And now, even though he's not speaking to as many members of his family, he's much more open with one individual, the character that Teddie plays, Gina. So it's nice to see him be a little bit more open, and maybe a little bit vulnerable. For Allen, she explained that by MobLand season 1's ending, Gina had the "not-so-nice realization" that the criminal underworld she's "been plonked in" due to her father's job as the Harrigan family fixer is "really difficult to get out of." As such, going into season 2, Gina is going down a path of "making do with what she can" and is "trying to take her own power" without the need of the Harrigans or her father's help: Teddie Allen: But I think her life with them is so much more entwined than maybe she realizes, at first. So as we go along, we see her feeling more and more trapped, or claustrophobic, or lost, and exploring that life of crime. But while Eddie and Gina are feeling confident after months of success with their new business, the one hurdle facing them going forward is still Maeve, as MobLand season 2 continues to show her wanting Eddie to cut off ties from her. When asked about the motivation behind this, and potential compareisons between them and Conrad and Maeve, Mirren confirmed that the latter is still "very jealous of Gina," with the Harrigan matriarch being "very nervous of this female energy" that she instills in Eddie's life. That being said, the Oscar winner also teased that Maeve won't give up on her secret plans for Eddie, even if it comes at the cost of dealing with a character that routinely goes against them: Helen Mirren: She knows that when problems explode, it's often cherchez la femme. You know, when you look into the story, there is a woman at the back of it, or a reason for it...I think she severely misunderstands or underestimates Gina's character. And I suspect we're going to see an awful lot more of Gina somehow. Pierce Brosnan: I think more colors will be revealed. Helen Mirren: Yeah, exactly, I think she's going to reveal herself as the snake that Maeve thinks she is, that sort of thing. But for now, she just doesn't want any other female influence over her grandson, who's actually not her grandson. [Chuckles] Though offering a slightly different side of the character, the MobLand season 2 premiere and marketing has still showcased Eddie and Gina as atypical young adults making their own stamp on the criminal underworld. From making their targets those their parents wouldn't think to eye for money-making, to still enjoying the club party scene with their proceeds, the pair are very much becoming the show's own Bonnie and Clyde. REVEAL MY SCORE → The Sit-Down Is Over · Scores Tallied Your Family Standing 👑 / 8 Made man — or still an associate? ↻ TAKE ANOTHER MEETING However, as Mirren alludes to above, Maeve isn't the most receptive to Gina and Eddie's growing relationship in MobLand season 2, and it's partly down to the fact that, at the start of the season, she's the only one of his family he's in contact with. Maeve is shown still supporting Eddie's endeavors, including taking a cut of his and Gina's earnings from their shakedowns, and should she threaten to pull that support entirely, he may find his allegiances torn. What is currently still unclear is what exactly Maeve has planned for both Eddie and Gina going through the rest of MobLand season 2. Though clearly wanting to get Gina out of Eddie's life, Maeve has proven to simultaneously be ruthless and cunning in getting her way, and as such may resort to more violent measures in order to finally be the only female presence in his life. Plus, with the secret out that she is not Eddie's biological grandmother, the character may have more in mind than just setting him up for taking Conrad's place as the Harrigan family boss.
