File | Photo Credit: The Hindu The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court on Monday (July 27, 2026) struck down the government orders (G.Os) granting government jobs to the family members of the victims of the tragic Karur stampede that occurred in September 2025 during a Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) election rally, addressed by its president C. Joseph Vijay.A Division Bench of Justices C.V. Karthikeyan and R. Sakthivel allowed a batch of public interest litigation (PIL) petitions, which had challenged the Chief Minister Vijay-led government’s decision to grant jobs to the family members of the stampede victims.Earlier, the court had permitted the State government to conduct an event in Karur in July to distribute the appointment orders.The court, however, had said the employment offer would be on a temporary basis, subject to judicial review.
