A MAJOR UK motorway has closed after a “serious” crash involving three lorries and a car. The smash on the M6 in North Staffordshire this morning saw the motorway closed off in both directions between junctions 15 and 16. National Highways has confirmed the smash occurred at around 4.10am this morning on the northbound stretch. Motorists are also being warned the northbound stretch could stay closed for hours. Delays of up to 30 minutes are also to be expected, said National Highways. According to National Highways the “northbound closure is likely to remain into this afternoon”. Meanwhile, the southbound carriageway has been shut to help emergency services access the scene of the smash. It has left drivers bumper-to-bumper as they head on diversion routes. Pictures show huge delays around junction 15 as rush-hour chaos commences.
