M25 closed over huge car fire as drivers stuck in four-mile queues

A MAJOR motorway has ground to a halt after a vehicle caught fire, leading to four mile tailbacks. Emergency services rushed to the M25 in Surrey between J10 at Wisley and J11 at Chertsey. Live shots show the traffic at a standstill on the clockwise route. Traffic monitoring site Inrix announced in an update at 11.30am that the M25 clockwise was blocked due to a car fire. In an update at 11.45am they shared that traffic had been released but warned of continued “long delays”. In an update at 11.55am on X, National Highways said: “M25 clockwise in Surrey between J10 (Cobham) & J11 (Chertsey). “Lanes 1 & 2 (of 4) remain closed for vehicle recovery & to assess road surface damage. Most read in The Sun “Lanes 3 & 4 are now open past scene. Current delays of 33 minutes on the approach, with 5 miles of congestion.”
