M&S launches ‘luxurious’ new £3 chocolate bar that’s dividing shoppers

And there’s now even more to choose from in the supermarket’s confectionery aisle, following yet another new launch. Earlier this week, M&S took to Instagram to announce the release of Collection Single Origin Dark Chocolate with Mint, which it dubbed ‘the most luxuriously creamy, minty bar you could treat yourself to.’ ‘Crafted from rich 85% Peruvian dark chocolate with a drop or two of Indian mint oil, we won’t blame you for snapping off a square every time you walk past,’ added the retailer. Priced at at £3 each, the 100g bars are now available to buy in stores or on Ocado. Ask Metro Use AI to go deeper into the stories you care about – powered by Metro and trusted publications. But while a number of shoppers are rushing to do just that, not everyone’s convinced. It’s a love it or hate it flavour combination (Picture: M&S) ‘Oh em gee! I need this,’ wrote kiran.k.kang on Instagram, with derek_sadorra hailing the product a ‘new must try’ and bassdemon766 responding: ‘That looks mighty fine.’ Among those who had got their hands on it, neverornow_podcast said they now ‘can’t be without it,’ while Facebooker Jo Connie Woodward commented: ‘I can confirm it’s absolutely delicious. What a triumph, thank you M&S.’ Others also praised its vegan-friendly credentials and cocoa to sugar ratio, explaining that where many other treats are unsuitable for people with diabetes or lactose intolerance, this could be more widely enjoyed. The new flavour left a bad taste for some though, including elle_em_3 who commented: ‘Dark chocolate haters assemble.’ ‘Why always dark chocolate and not milk chocolate,’ bemoaned one of them, Lily B-Chapman, on Facebook. It wasn’t just low-cocoa loyalists with complaints though. Despite saying ‘dark mint chocolate is [her] favourite,’ Sarah Cottenden wrote: ‘Sadly I found it too dark and it left a dry after taste.’ The best supermarket chocolate bars This comes after Metro recently shared the results of a new milk chocolate taste test, pitting supermarket own-brand bars against Cadbury Dairy Milk to see which is the best. One matched the branded favourite on factors like taste and appearance, despite coming in cheaper and being palm oil-free. Cadbury fared well in the blind taste test, scoring highly in all categories, (except for value for money) and garnering compliments for its ‘nostalgic’ and ‘creamy’ taste. M&S’s offering was deemed ‘nice’ but ‘a little underwhelming’ for the price, with similarly-spenny options from the likes of Waitrose losing out to budget buys from Aldi and Lidl.
