A Sun reporter who stumbled across the advert while scrolling Facebook was surprised – but amused. “I didn’t expect to see M&S selling crotchless pants,” she admitted. Most read in Fabulous “I get all my proper knickers there – I’m too old for sexy pants – and love how comfy they are. “But I was laughing and wasn’t in the least offended. If there’s a literal gap in the market they may as well take it.” Meanwhile, Mumsnet members had varying views. “Who on God’s green earth turns to M&S for sexy fun?” asked one person. “Please can there be one little corner of England where I don’t have to run the gauntlet of sexy fun? Too much to ask?” Another person added: “I was a bit surprised by the advert too. “M&S is traditionally known for sensible sturdy pants. Ann Summers’ for fun/sexy lingerie. “I will say that I have bought some (non crotchless) knickers from AS and they are actually of decent quality – well made and comfortable. “I really can’t see the point of crotchless pants though. Surely the whole point of pants is to cover the undercarriage. Just save the cash and go commando surely?” And another added: “ Have I actually fallen asleep and am dreaming?! WTAF is M&S thinking?!!” And one wrote: “Oh come on, all the ‘What’s the big deal?’ replies are so ridiculous. M&S underwear dept is the home of stout, solid, granny pants and comfy bras.” And one said: “I wouldn’t wear one but there’s nothing wrong with dressing a certain way for your partner if you are both comfortable and willing .” An M&S spokesman told The Sun: “Our brands at M&S strategy is all about giving customers greater choice through carefully selected third-party brands that complement our existing M&S offer. “Ann Summers is one of the latest brands to join M&S.com, helping broaden our underwear and nightwear offer.” Comment now
