M&S is launching bakery ‘surprise bags’ for just £3.80 at 350 stores

And if you’re a devout worshipper of the cookies or sourdough loaves, we’ve got good news. Your favourite treats are about to get cheaper, as the retailer has announced a brand new partnership with Too Good To Go. M&S Food is launching ‘surprise bags’ on the popular app, allowing customers to save surplus bakery products such as cookies, bread, and pastries. The bags will contain at least £10.20 worth of baked goods (Picture: M&S) To grab one, you’ll need to have the Too Good To Go app and have reserved a bag on the day. There will only be a certain number of bags available to reserve each day, and once they’re gone, they’re gone until the next drop. Each surprise bag will cost £3.80 and contain three to four bakery products, worth at least £10.20 in total. The bags will be available to collect from the in-store bakery one hour before the store closes (Monday to Saturday) at more than 350 M&S Food stores. Availability of the bags will vary daily depending on how much surplus stock is left over at each store each day, and specific bakery items cannot be guaranteed. Speaking about the partnership, Chelsea Kerr, the managing director at Too Good To Go UK & Ireland, said: ‘Food waste is a huge challenge, but partnerships like this show how simple it can be for businesses and consumers to take action together. Ask Metro Use AI to go deeper into the stories you care about – powered by Metro and trusted publications. ‘By giving food that might otherwise go unsold another chance to be enjoyed, we’re making it easier for people to save good food while also getting great value.’ And Lucinda Langton, the head of sustainability at M&S Food, highlighted that M&S has committed to halving food waste by 2030, and this is the latest way they are doing so. ‘Too Good To Go is a brilliant example of how we’re turning our commitment to reducing food waste into practical action,’ she commented. ‘By giving customers access to surprise bags of surplus bakery products, we can help ensure more of our food is enjoyed. ‘The response from our trial stores has been outstanding, and this partnership is another positive step towards our goal of halving food waste by 2030.’ As well as the Too Good To Go bags, M&S has also been working with Neighbourly to redistribute surplus food to charities, with more than 130 meals donated so far. This comes after M&S recently added a few new items to its in-store bakeries, including sausage rolls. Priced at £2.25 each (although some stores are selling for £2.35), the sausage rolls contain RSPCA-assured outdoor-bred British pork sourced from M&S Select farms, and an all-butter puff pastry. The retailer claims that ‘no other high street sausage roll even comes close’ to theirs. There’s a Mature Cheddar & Vintage Red Fox Ciabatta Bread Stick, as well as a Nocellara Olive Ciabatta Stick.
