Lyft’s new membership program earns 8% back in credits on eligible rides, and customers who get DoorDash DashPass through an eligible Chase card can claim it without paying. But they’re also losing benefits like a 10% discount on scheduled airport rides and free Priority Pickup upgrades. Lyft Go launched today, replacing ordinary Lyft Pink and the old DashPass ride benefits. Existing DashPass customers have to activate it even if their Lyft and DoorDash accounts are already linked. And anyone still holding Lyft Pink All Access through Chase: you can’t keep that membership and add Go alongside it. Lyft is selling two versions of Go: Benefit Lyft Go With DashPass Lyft Go Core Price $9.99/month or $96/year $4.99/month Credits earned 8% of eligible spending 5% of eligible spending Monthly earning limit $40 $20 Where credits can be used Eligible Lyft rides or DoorDash orders Eligible Lyft rides DashPass membership Included after activation Not included Relaxed cancellations 3 per month 3 per month Lost-item return fee waiver Unlimited Not included Round Up & Donate matching 100% 100% The full plan works in both directions. Pay for Go and get DashPass, which waives delivery fees and reduces service fees on eligible orders, and DashPass members claim full Go at no added cost. DoorDash purchases don’t earn the new 8% rebate but you can spend credits earned with Lyft there. Chase may now get you both complimentary memberships: Make sure your Chase DashPass benefit is activated. Go to DoorDash’s Lyft benefit page, or claim Lyft Go in the DoorDash app. Complete activation, including the confirmation in Lyft. Previously linking the accounts isn’t enough. The complimentary membership lasts while you retain the qualifying membership and keep the accounts linked. And an eligible ride can now earn four layers of rewards: Lyft Go credits: 8% of eligible spending, up to $40 per month. Linked loyalty program points: for example, 2 Bilt points per eligible dollar when Bilt is your selected partner. Credit card rewards: for example, 5 Chase Ultimate Rewards points per dollar when you pay with an eligible Sapphire card. Card-linked offers: an activated offer for Lyft on the card you use, such as a targeted Chase Offer or SimplyMiles offer when available. You choose one linked loyalty points partner such as Bilt, Alaska Airlines or United. $100 of fare eligible for all three programs, paid with an eligible Sapphire card and credited to Bilt, can earn $8 in Go credits, 200 Bilt points and 500 Chase points – plus whatever card-linked offer applies. Sapphire Reserve and J.P. Morgan Reserve also have their separate $10 monthly Lyft ride credit. Sadly though existing DashPass discounts are going away. I’ve written about combining those discounts with Lyft’s other rewards. The old arrangement gave linked DashPass members: 5% off eligible on-demand rides. 10% off scheduled airport rides. A combined limit of four discounted rides per month. Two free Priority Pickup upgrades monthly. Under DoorDash’s transition terms, those benefits end at 11:59 p.m. Pacific on November 11, or when you activate Go, whichever comes first. So a frequent ordinary ride customer can gain – 8% back instead of 5% off, with earning continuing beyond four rides. A customer using the scheduled airport discount gets a lower percentage, has to spend the savings later, and loses the pickup upgrades. Here’s how the 8% works: Base fare only. Taxes, fees, tolls, tips, donations and amounts covered by coupons, discounts or earned credits don’t earn. 60-day expiration. You have to select credits to use them; they aren’t automatically applied. A monthly cap. Full Go stops earning after $500 in eligible spending. Core stops after $400. Membership dependence. Pausing blocks redemption while expiration continues. Once your membership ends, unused credits become unavailable and can be forfeited. No conversion of old balances. Purchased Lyft Cash, gift cards and unrelated promotional credits don’t become usable on DoorDash. Business profile rides and shared rides don’t earn. Eligible bike and scooter rides do, but Boston and Washington, D.C. bike and scooter rides are excluded. Lyft includes Wait & Save in its announcement, although DoorDash’s launch FAQ contradicts that. DoorDash redemption has exclusions: non-DashPass-eligible orders, DoubleDash, prescriptions, gift cards and group orders. Then there’s the cancellation benefit: Lyft requires you to rebook within 15 minutes and complete the replacement ride. They charge the cancellation fee, then give it back as a ride credit. These aren’t three unconditional free cancellations. Pink All Access members can continue but that’s now closed to new members, you can only hold one membership at a time, and once you leave All Access, you can’t rejoin. Switching to Go requires contacting support. If there’s anyone with Chase DashPass actually paying separately for ordinary Pink that’s a win. DoorDash says to cancel the paid Lyft subscription, then claim complimentary Go through DashPass. The companies won’t automatically consolidate those subscriptions For Chase DashPass customers who weren’t paying for Lyft, this is a modest improvement for frequent ordinary rides and a downgrade for occasional scheduled airport trips. Lyft gets more than a subscription payment out of this change – an immediate discount saves you money even if you never ride again while a credit gets brings you back for another transaction (or costs them nothing if you don’t).
