LSU 5-star TE commit Ahmad Hudson turning heads at Peach Jam

It can be easy to forget that Ruston (La.) five-star tight end Ahmad Hudson is more than an elite football prospect. The coveted LSU commit remains the No. 1 TE in the 2027 cycle, according to the Rivals Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all major recruiting media companies. Many remain fixated on the impact he could have on the gridiron in Baton Rouge. Hudson doubles as a blue-chip basketball prospect. In fact, he’s not far off five-star status on the hardwood. He’s had no problem excelling at the prep level and he’s really turned some heads on the court this week. Playing for JL3 Elite at Peach Jam this week, Hudson is looking like one of the best. On Friday, he put up 30 points, 11 rebounds, six steals, four assists and two blocks vs. Team CP3. He caught the attention of The Field of 68’s Jeff Goodman, among others. “Watching Ahmad Hudson, the No. 1 tight end who is committed to LSU, and this kid could play hoop for anyone in the country,” Goodman wrote on X. “Plays so damn hard, incredible athlete and great hands. Can’t even imagine how good he’s gonna be for Lane Kiffin.” Across four games this week, Hudson has averaged 21.5 points and 13.5 rebounds per game. He’s shooting 57 percent from the floor and is leading Peach Jam in rebounds. “Hudson is explosive. And he brings a physical presence to both ends of the floor. He was at his best here playing within 10 feet of the basket and playing toward the rim,” Rivals National Analyst Jamie Shaw wrote earlier this week, tabbing Hudson as a top performer. “He struggled at times to connect on passes and missed some chippies at the rim, but the 6-foot-6 four/five man has a definite presence in the high school setting. He finished with 15 points and 10 rebounds with 5 STOCKS in the narrow loss.” Hudson chose LSU over Nebraska On May 3, Hudson stunned some by announcing his commitment to LSU. The Tigers had always been a frontrunner in his recruitment, but his announcement was not planned or built up. No one in Baton Rouge was complaining, though. He is considered a commit for both LSU football and basketball. His father, Antonio Hudson, played basketball for the Tigers. After Hudson pledged in May, Shea Dixon of The Bengal Tiger wrote this: “A source on the LSU Basketball side tells me Hudson is not only now considered an LSU Basketball commit, but that Louisiana’s top dual-sport athlete is “100% an SEC-level basketball player.” Hudson was named the Gatorade Louisiana Boys Basketball Player of the Year back in March. For Ruston, he averaged 19.7 points and 13.5 rebounds and led the Bearcats to the state title game. Nebraska has continued to push for a flip this summer, but Hudson remains in LSU’s recruiting classes, as of July 17. He’s currently Will Wade’s lone commit in the 2027 cycle and also headlines a top-10 class for Lane Kiffin.
