Love during recruitment, wedding plans now stalled: Heartbreak for 2 women cops

Two women police constables in Pune's Pimpri-Chinchwad met during the recruitment process, fell in love and decided to get married. They were planning to marry in a traditional Vedic ceremony in Alandi on August 30 and preparations were underway for the same, despite opposition from one of the woman's family members. They had applied for leave from the police department, and had also submitted their wedding invitation.However, now the wedding has been cancelled.While consensual same-sex relationships are not criminalised, such marriages are illegal under Indian laws.They reportedly met during the police recruitment process. After completing their recruitment, both were appointed as constables around three years ago. Following their training, they were posted to the police headquarters for some time before being transferred to the same police station in Pune. It was during this period that they reportedly grew close and decided to live together. However, they faced severe opposition from the family of one of the women. The family members had approached senior police officials and sought intervention to prevent the proposed marriage.But police officials reportedly treated the matter as a personal issue involving the two women and indicated that they could only provide counselling assistance at best. Furthermore, one of these women had also started her medical treatment for gender transition. She reportedly travelled to a hospital in Mumbai for the same. However, whether the medical transition has any bearing on the matter is unclear.ANOTHER GENDER TRANSITION CASE IN PIMPRI-CHINCHWAD POLICEThere was another case involving gender transition within the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Department.
