Long heat wave strikes Egypt, peaking on Thursday

Egypt is experiencing its first relatively long heat wave since the start of summer, beginning on Sunday and continuing until Thursday, July 23. Weather maps predict the peak of the heatwave will occur on Thursday. The Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA) expects temperatures to rise, accompanied by increased surface humidity that may exceed 95 percent, due to the expansion of the Indian monsoon low, creating hot and stifling conditions, especially indoors. Maximum temperatures on the northern coast will range between 31-32C, while Greater Cairo and Lower Egypt will see temperatures between 37-38C. The EMA said that high humidity levels will lead to an increase in perceived temperatures, reaching 40C in Greater Cairo, 42C in northern Upper Egypt, and 44C in southern Upper Egypt. The Authority urged the public to stay updated on weather forecasts, avoid direct sun exposure during peak hours, and keep well-hydrated, especially given the continued high temperatures and humidity.
