London bus strikes postponed after ‘significantly approved offer’

London bus strikes scheduled for this weekend have been postponed after workers received a “significantly improved offer”.Over 1,500 bus drivers working for Arriva North London had been due to strike over a dispute focused around unacceptable temperatures for workers on buses.The strikes, affecting over 40 routes across Barking, Edmonton, Enfield, Grays, Palmers Green, Stamford Hill, Tottenham and Wood Green, had been set to go ahead on Friday September 4.However, following talks between Arriva and Unite, the union representing bus drivers, an improved offer has now been tabled to the union and will be put out to ballot.General secretary of the Unite the Union, Sharon GrahamPA ArchiveUnite general secretary Sharon Graham said: "Unite is determined that the conditions of bus drivers are improved in London and beyond. “We expect bus operators to treat workers with dignity and respect and will be ensuring that this happens.”Unite national lead officer Onay Kasab said: “Following an improved offer which deals with the issues raised by Unite members, the offer will now go out to ballot over the coming days.”
