Following the recent code branching for the LLVM 23 series, LLVM 23.1-rc1 was released today in working toward the next stable release of this open-source compiler stack. LLVM 23.1.0 stable is working toward a stable release by the end of August and with that comes many changes for this half-year update to the LLVM/Clang compiler. LLVM 23 brings x86 Lightweight Fault Isolation "LFI" target support, initial support for the NVIDIA Rigel core to be found with the NVIDIA Rosa processor, Arm C1-Ultra scheduling model, the new AMD HIP offload driver, partial support for C++26 with -std=c++2c, more C2Y language functionality, LLD linker improvements, various compiler diagnostic improvements, AMDGPU GFX1310 target support, SpacemiT X100 RISC-V targeting support, experimental assembler support for various newer RISC-V instructions, and AVX-512 BMM support as being introduced with AMD Zen 6 CPUs. There's a lot in store with LLVM 23. In turn LLVM 23 should be picked up by late 2026 Linux distributions like Ubuntu 26.10 and Fedora 45.
