Liverpool let Premier League cult hero’s son join Port Vale as part of plan to give goal-machine EFL experience

LIVERPOOL have sent Keyrol Figueroa on loan to Port Vale for the 2026/27 season. Figueroa is the son of Premier League cult hero Maynor Figueroa, who made 179 appearances for Wigan and Hull in the English top flight between 2007 and 2015. However, Figueroa Jnr., who is a forward, will be hoping to score more goals than his father, who was a defender playing left-back or centre-back. Sign up for the Football newsletter Thank you! And to help him on that journey, he has been given a birthday gift of being sent on loan to League Two side Port Vale. Figueroa moved to England from Honduras at an early age, and eventually joined the Liverpool academy. He made his Under-18 debut for the Reds in October 2021 at the age of 15 before signing his first professional contract with the club in May 2024. The winger stepped up the Under-21s in 2024/25 and was nominated for the PL2 Player of the Month award in January while finishing the campaign with 12 goals in 15 appearances. But now it has been deemed his development is best served in a new environment. A statement from Port Vale manager Jon Brady announcing the transfer said: “Keyrol comes from an outstanding football environment at Liverpool and has a really exciting attacking profile. Most read in Sport BEST ONLINE CASINOS – TOP SITES IN THE UK Top football travel deals “He’s quick, direct and dynamic, with a real desire to threaten defenders and play on the front foot. “He has the strength and technical ability to receive the ball under pressure and link play, while also having the pace and athleticism to run in behind, attack space and cause problems with his movement. “There’s an unpredictability to him in attacking areas which I feel is something we need and will add another dimension to our team. “His goalscoring record at PL2 level speaks for itself, particularly in terms of his goals-per-game return, but he’s still a young player with plenty of development ahead of him. “We’re really excited to work with Keyrol, help him continue that development and give him the freedom to express the qualities he has.” Figueroa’s exploits have also seen him star for the Honduras national team after switching to them from the United States, whom he had represented at youth level.
