In Bihar's Bankipur seat, Jan Suraaj Party founder Prashant Kishor has challenged decades of BJP dominance in his electoral debut. The constituency witnessed abysmally low voter turnout of just over 34 per cent in the by-election held on July 30. While the result is unlikely to impact the NDA government's stability in Bihar, the Bankipur contest is a crucial test of the BJP's prestige, as the seat fell vacant after its chief, Nitin Nabin, was elected to the Rajya Sabha earlier this year. Like Bankipur, a meagre turnout was also recorded in the Manjalpur Assembly constituency in Gujarat, with only 37.5 per cent of eligible voters actually showing up to cast their votes. In the Datia Assembly constituency in Madhya Pradesh, a voter turnout of 71.44 per cent was recorded on polling day.
