Linux 7.4 AMD P-State Driver Will Be Ready For Ryzen Zen 6 CPUs

With the upcoming Linux 7.4 kernel the necessary changes to the AMD P-State driver are set to land for properly supporting the upcoming AMD Ryzen client processors based on the Zen 6 cores. The AMD P-State changes for Linux 7.4 were sent out on Sunday to the Linux power management subsystem's "-next" Git branch for staging ahead of the v7.4 merge window happening in late October. The amd-pstate driver changes include initial support for maximum CPU frequency capacity handling on Zen 6 client processors. There is also updated Energy Performance Preference (EPP) tuning for Ryzen Zen 6 client processors. This includes tuning across the standard performance and and power/dense cores as well as the new low-power core type coming with Zen 6 client designs. That tuning work was further explained in the recent AMD Ryzen Zen 6 CPU Power Values Being Further Tuned For Linux article. Plus the amd-pstate pull request also has a few bug fixes identified by the Sashiko AI agent. Long story short, it's looking like Linux 7.4 is looking like it may be the good baseline for the upcoming AMD Ryzen Zen 6 client processors expected to be launched in early 2027. Linux 7.4 stable should be out around the end of December.
