My testing of the in-development Linux 7.2 kernel continues in the lab. One of the latest promising findings from this kernel that will be released as stable in August is faster Intel Xe3 graphics performance on Core Ultra Series 3 "Panther Lake" hardware. This past week I ran some Linux 7.1 stable vs. Linux 7.2 Git (17 July state) using the same Kconfig configuration on the MSI Prestige 14 Flip AI+ laptop that was kindly provided as a review sample by Intel back for the Panther Lake launch. This MSI Prestige 14 Flip AI+ features the Core Ultra X7 358H SoC with the Arc B390 Xe3 graphics. The Linux 7.1 and 7.2 Git kernel testing was done atop an Ubuntu 26.04 LTS installation on this laptop and no other changes during testing. Mesa was the stock Mesa 26.0.3 shipped in the Ubuntu Resolute archive and using the GNOME 50.1 desktop on Wayland. No other changes to note for this MSI Prestige 14 Flip AI+ / Core Ultra X7 358H Linux kernel performance testing besides moving from Linux 7.1 stable to Linux 7.2 Git as of a few days ago.
