Lingnan University tightens English course requirements for undergrads

Skip to content Hong Kong’s Lingnan University has updated its English language graduation requirements for undergraduates to ensure that all students complete and pass required university courses. Previously, students were able to rely on results from external tests. According to a press release on Thursday, the move is effective immediately. The university added that its Centre for English and Additional Languages is now offering a new English Language Enhancement Course to better support current students. “Lingnan’s English Language Enhancement Curriculum groups students according to their English proficiency upon admission. It comprises university English courses, English electives and discipline-related Professional Communication courses,” the press release said. “The revision aims to make better use of teaching resources and strengthen support for students’ English language learning,” the university added. Three Lingnan students were disciplined in 2024 for submitting English test scores obtained by surrogate test-takers to meet their graduation requirements.
