Lindsay Clancy jury tells judge it can’t agree for second time

The judge in the murder trial of Lindsay Clancy, the woman accused of killing her own three children, has sent the jury back for another round of deliberations as the jurors were again unable to reach a unanimous verdict.Clancy is accused of strangling her three children in their Duxbury, Massachusetts, home in 2023 using exercise resistance bands. Clancy’s lawyers do not deny the murders but are seeking an insanity defense for Clancy, arguing that she was in a postpartum psychotic state when she strangled her children. Recommended Stories After 17 initial hours of deliberations, the jury, comprising nine women and three men, first told Massachusetts Superior Court Judge William Sullivan that they could not reach a unanimous decision on Tuesday. Over 24 hours after the judge sent the jurors back for a second round of deliberations late Tuesday morning, the jury sent another note to Sullivan on Wednesday afternoon saying they were again unable to unite around a verdict. Clancy faces up to life in prison if the jury finds her guilty. However, if the jury finds Clancy not guilty on insanity grounds, she would be admitted into a state mental health institution.“I brought you back out because I know that this was a long trial,” Sullivan had told the jury on Tuesday. “All right, I know. There were over 80 witnesses, there were over 300 exhibits. But because of that, I’m going to ask you to go back out.”After five weeks of testimony, the trial’s closing arguments concluded and the case was handed to the jury on Thursday, Aug. 27.POSTPARTUM DEPRESSION BECOMES PART OF CULTURE WARSThe prosecution in the case argues that Clancy was struggling with her mental health when she killed her children but still made the conscious “choice” to commit murder.Clancy’s lawyers have said her doctors mismanaged her postpartum psychosis diagnosis, prescribing her over a dozen medications that were possibly dangerous. Clancy also said she attempted suicide after killing her three children, Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, 8 months.
