Lily Konigsberg – “Free Byrd”

Both solo and as a member of projects like Palberta and My Idea, Lily Konigsberg used to be a prolific force in indie-pop, so it's surprising that today's new single marks her first release in four years. We're glad to have her back in action. "Free Byrd" is a pop song with a skip in its step. There's some real verve in those guitar parts, that drumbeat, and Konigsberg's ever-shifting conversational melodies. Some words from the artist herself:“Free Byrd” was written almost 4 years ago in Central Park on one of those giant rocks. I played it for my friend Greta that same day. When I finished, this high school girl sitting nearby turned around and said, “Is that a real song?” I said, “Yes, but I just wrote it”. And that was “Free Byrd”’s entrance into the world.I can confirm it is a real song.
