Light aircraft crashes at historic airfield during show as pilot seriously injured

NewsUK News A LIGHT aircraft has crashed at a historic airfield as the pilot is left with serious injuries. Emergency services scrambled to Stow Maries Great War Aerodrome in Essex at around 2.55pm. Essex Police raced to the scene after reports of an incident involving a light aircraft during an air show. The pilot, the sole occupant of the aircraft, was rushed to hospital after sustaining serious injuries. Sign up for The Sun newsletter Thank you! No other injuries have been reported at the aerodrome, which was the birthplace of the RAF and used in WW1 to counter attacks from German Zeppelins and bombers. Cops have urged members of the public to avoid the area to allow the first responders to carry out their work. In a statement on social media, the aerodrome said: “Following the earlier incident at Stow Maries Great War Aerodrome, we can now confirm that the pilot of the Turbulent aircraft has been taken to a London hospital and is receiving treatment for his injuries. “The site remains closed to the public.” A spokesperson from Essex Police said: “Those attending the event are urged to follow the instructions of organisers and emergency service personnel. “The public are asked to please avoid the area to allow responders the space to work at the scene.” Most read in The Sun
