Lidl’s £20 storage Ottoman came out last week – but I’ve found one the same price with 10 colour options

The Livarno Storage Ottoman arrived in stores on Tuesday 18 August, and its product page on the Lidl website is no longer live. If you had it earmarked for the toy pile or the airing cupboard overflow, though, Dunelm sells a near-identical flat-pack ottoman for £20 – and unlike Lidl’s, it comes in ten colours. Lidl’s came in a cream teddy fleece finish, measured L70 x W39 x H38cm, took loads up to 110kg, and came with a three-year warranty. Dunelm’s Faux Linen Rectangular Ottoman is a touch longer at 76cm, holds 83 litres and comes in cream, grey, natural, blush, sage, olive, ochre, black, pacific blue and purple. The finish is where they differ: teddy fleece is soft and warm but picks up marks, while faux linen is wipe-clean, which is important if it is going in a hallway or child’s bedroom. Both fold flat and go together without tools, so neither requires a full afternoon of blood, sweat and tears. One reviewer, posting under the headline “Bargain for £20”, said there was “much more space underneath than I thought there would be”. Another found it “easy to put together” and “a good size for toys to store away when grandchildren go home”. Several shoppers did mention that they expected something larger, though: at 76cm long, it is an end-of-the-bed box rather than a blanket chest, so if you’re replacing something, it’s worth measuring first.
