Lidl slashes EV charging prices to save motorists over £500 a year

LIDL has slashed its EV charging prices to save drivers over £500 a year. The budget supermarket is cutting the cost of rapid EV charging to 59p/kWh for Lidl Plus members. The retailer is also set to install another 100 rapid chargers at its stores aruond the country. There are now over 2.1million electric cars on Britain’s roads – a three-fold increase since 2022. Richard Taylor, chief real estate officer at Lidl, said: “For over 30 years, we’ve focused on giving customers the best possible value on their groceries, and our EV network is an extension of that promise. “By expanding our rapid chargers, we’re making it as simple and affordable as possible for shoppers to top up while they shop – helping EV drivers save money and supporting more sustainable everyday habits.” Last month, rival Tesco announced it had struck a major new deal that means shoppers can rack up extra Clubcard points when they charge their electric car. The supermarket giant has teamed up with EV charging network Be.EV, letting Clubcard members earn points at more than 680 locations across the UK. Anyone who links their Tesco Clubcard to the Be.EV charging app will now bag one Clubcard point for every £1 they spend on charging their vehicle. Most read in Money Comment now
