A graduate of McMaster University, Ryan began his career in public relations before attending Vancouver Film School. There, he built lasting industry connections and optioned a feature film screenplay. Since Taken in 2008, Liam Neeson has become known for starring in a particular brand of action movie. These films generally have the star playing a character who draws on a dark and violent past to take down criminals, often to help those in need. Recent Neeson action thrillers include films like The Fix (2026), Ice Road: Vengeance (2025), Absolution (2024), and Retribution (2023). Not all of these films find success in theaters or with critics, but Neeson continues to be a draw on streaming, and his latest project only further cements this. Following its theatrical release on October 30, Neeson's latest action thriller, The Mongoose has ascended to become the number one title on Prime Video worldwide. The film, directed by Mark Vanselow, is the top movie in countries including Australia, Canada, Colombia, Mexico, South Africa, and Turkey. The Mongoose Is #1 On Prime Video Despite Setting An Unfortunate Box Office Record Starring Neeson as a combat veteran fleeing a murder scene in an American muscle car, The Mongoose's streaming success follows a disappointing box office debut. The Neeson action movie grossed $480,000 in its opening weekend, hitting No. 18 on the domestic chart. This box office total for The Mongoose came from 1,014 theaters with a per-screen average of $473. This debut makes it the worst domestic debut in history for a wide-release Neeson movie. It's worth noting, however, that the film only released theatrically in the U.S. and debuted directly on Prime Video in other regions. Also starring Marisa Tomei, Ving Rhames, and Michael Chiklis, The Mongoose beats some notable titles on Prime Video. The Neeson film comes ahead of Apocalypse Z: New World (2026), Drive – The Pretenders (2026), Love of Your Life (2026), and Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (2001). Rounding out the rest of the streamer's top 10 are Masterplan (2026), Ali G: Who Iz I? (2026), Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002), The Love Hypothesis (2026), and Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004). The Mongoose Is Dividing Critics & Audiences On Rotten Tomatoes Though The Mongoose may now be faring well on Prime Video, the film has not been a win with critics. On Rotten Tomatoes, the movie has a lackluster 38% critics' score, making it firmly "rotten." The Mongoose reviews often praise the film's practical action sequences while taking issue with the poor script and lack of any real depth. Audiences, however, have been far more receptive to the movie, with the Popcornmeter coming in at a more respectable 60%. Though The Mongoose isn't likely to go down as Neeson's best action thriller, it evidently has enough on offer to keep Prime Video subscribers entertained. Neeson, now 74, may now be towards the end of his career as an action star, but the film's streaming success suggests the actor still has gas left in the tank when it comes to thrilling, action-heavy spectacles.
